Revealed: How Man Utd asked about Brighton star Caicedo
Moises Caicedo has improved drastically over the last year, and is catching the eye of the biggest clubs across Europe following a series of impressive displays for Brighton.
The 20-year-old is doing well in the Premier League and even got a goal against Manchester United this season to add to it as Albion won at Old Trafford on the first day of the campaign.
Having spent a portion of last season on loan, the Ecuadorian came back into the Brighton team at the start of this year and hasn’t looked back.
Despite suggestions that many across Europe were eyeing a bid for the player, Fabrizio Romano says that only Manchester United were truly interested in signing Caicedo this summer.
Man Utd the only side interested
Manchester United have long been interested in Caicedo, even looking to sign him when he was playing for Independiente del Valle as a teenager, but refused the move.
They have reignited the interest in recent times, and will continue to keep an eye on the situation in the coming years as they look to improve.
According to Romano, the Red Devils were the only side that wanted him this year: “There’s been a lot of speculation about Moises Caicedo and Premier League clubs, with talk of further interest in January”

“The only club interested this summer was Manchester United. They asked about Caicedo as potential option before signing Casemiro, who was the real and main priority.
“I’m not sure there will be a price tag for the player in January, as Brighton called him untouchable for the whole month of August,” Romano concluded in his piece for Caught Offside.
There were reports that Chelsea wanted Caicedo in the summer, while Liverpool were looking at a late move to aid their injury crisis but neither happened as Brighton were keen to hold on to their star midfielder.
What happens in the coming months will be interesting to see as Caicedo continues to grow and could become even better under new management following Graham Potter’s departure to Chelsea.
