Manchester United have one of the highest wage bills in world football, playing host to a big group of top stars in the game and paying out big contracts over long periods.

Over the summer, many of their previous top earners including Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard left the club, but some of the high earners still remained.

The Red Devils also signed six players over the summer, including Casemiro, who arrived on a big fee and contract from Spanish and European champions Real Madrid.

They could, however, see another group of stars leave the club next summer as their contracts run out, and that could mean their wage bill is slashed in 2023.

Man Utd could slash wage bill massively

It’s possible that Manchester United’s wage bill is cut down by £75 million in 2023, with their two highest-earners out of contract next year.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns £25 million every season, is in the final year of his deal at the club Manchester United and was adamant on leaving them this past summer.

Ronaldo was eager to leave over the transfer window but a move could not materialize as suitors were limited, forcing him to stay at Old Trafford.

David de Gea is also in the final year of his deal, and recent performances suggest Erik ten Hag may be looking to bring in a new number one at the club.

He is the highest-paid goalkeeper in world football, earning £19.5 million-per-season, and getting him off the wage bill would be a huge cut.

There are other high earners entering the final year of their deals at Manchester United including Marcus Rashford, who earns £10.4 million-per-season and Luke Shaw, who earns £7.8 million-a-season.

Rashford was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, while Ten Hag has seemingly established Tyrell Malacia as his number one left-back in recent weeks, which may make him ponder Shaw’s future.

Other than that, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot also have a deal running out, while Martin Dubravka is at the club on a season-long loan spell and may not remain beyond this year.
