‘We’re gonna win the Quidditch cup!’: Football reacts to Potter joining Chelsea
Football fans on social media had plenty to say after Graham Potter was announced as the replacement for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
Tuchel was sacked after a string of bad results and Chelsea moved quickly to appoint Potter as their new head coach after agreeing a deal worth a reported £21 million to bring the Brighton boss and his staff to Stamford Bridge.
While the country held its breath for developments over the health of the Queen, much energy was focused on Buckingham Palace at the time of the announcement but it didn’t stop football taking precedent for some.
With an abundance of Harry Potter memes and references surrounding the new Chelsea boss, fans had plenty of say during a hectic day on social media.
’Watch out Arteta!’ Chelsea fans excited at Potter appointment
Much of the discussion was pure debate on whether Potter was the right choice for Chelsea, with some pointing out Brighton’s history with failing to find the back of the net.
Fans couldn’t help but draw comparisons to Chelsea’s attacking struggles and held concerns over whether Potter could make the step up to a bigger club.

Don’t want to ruin any potential excitement but Potter’s win rate at Brighton only sits at 28.3%, consisting of 44 draws and 42 losses in 120 games and he has been questioned as to what more he can do to make the players finish the chances they create, sounds a familiar story.

However, the majority of the reaction was enthusiastic, with fans believing they had a manager in for the long-term and warned rivals that they would be the first team to win the Premier League with an English manager.
But ultimately, memes are the backbone of social media and there were plenty of jokes going around, particularly in regards to Potter linking up with Marc Cucurella, who only left Brighton for Chelsea in the summer.

Others just couldn’t help make the Harry Potter references as Chelsea fans were largely enthused and excited, despite some sadness over the departure of Tuchel.
I love Thomas Tuchel & always will, I’m 100% backing our new manager Graham Potter, let’s all get behind him & hopefully he will be able to turn our fortunes around.
