Chelsea made a shock decision in sacking manager Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, signaling co-owner Todd Boehly’s intent for immediate results.

The Blues have had a difficult start to the season, which has included defeats to Leeds United and Southampton, and they added to that with a Champions League opening-day defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

That prompted Boehly to make a surprising call and sack Tuchel, just a week after giving him a huge warchest to spend on transfers over the summer.

The Blues signed the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly and others, but they will now all be managed by a new head coach.

Disagreements aplenty at Chelsea

Now, details have emerged about the misunderstandings between Boehly and Tuchel, which could’ve led to the sacking of the German boss in the week.

According to The Athletic, Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, part of the consortium that bought Chelsea, didn’t make a good impression on Tuchel in some early meetings to discuss football plans.

They drew up plans for the team, but accidentally drew up a 4-4-3 formation, which baffled Tuchel and the rest of the coaching staff at the club.

Tuchel and the rest of his staff felt this was one of many “slapstick” moments as the new owners adapted to football and its rules, and that was tough for the manager to deal with.

Chelsea deny anything of this manner happening, but the report adds to it by saying he had tensions with Eghbali in pre-season, which contributed to the poor relationship between manager and club.

Tuchel also felt he wasn’t given the signings he asked for, and that his demeanor left many within the playing squad feeling isolated or even ignored, which was seen during pre-season preparations.

Amongst other things, the report also says communication between owners and manager dried down after the 3-0 loss to Leeds United.

Tuchel will now be looking to find another job in Europe, and he leaves Chelsea with a great legacy, being only their second manager to win the Champions League.
