Why Bayern Munich won’t sign Ronaldo in January
Bayern Munich have no plans to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
That is according to German transfer expert Florian Pettenberg, who claims that Bayern do not intend to sign a new striker during the January transfer window.
Instead, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann has been told to resolve the club’s attacking problems with the players already at his disposal.
There have been calls and growing reports in recent days that Bayern could return to the market in January to sign a top-class number nine like Ronaldo.
Despite winning two games from two in the Champions League against Inter and Barcelona, Bayern are currently in their worst run of domestic form for two decades.
They are in fifth position in the Bundesliga, having failed to win any of their last four games.
One of the biggest reasons for this slump has been due to the failure to replace Robert Lewandowski, following his summer move to Barcelona.
Ronaldo the answer?
But Plettenberg says that Bayern will not be signing Ronaldo, who was offered to the club this past summer.
Cristiano still wants to leave Man Utd in January, having initially issued a transfer request in July.
Ronaldo cited his desire to join a club that is in the Champions League and could challenge for major trophies.
His agent Jorge Mendes offered him out to numerous clubs around Europe, including Bayern, without finding a taker.
Indeed, the most concrete interest appeared to come from Saudi Arabia through Al-Hilal’s offer.
Ronaldo has been out of Man Utd’s starting XI in the Premier League this season and only scored his first goal of 2022-23 in the Europa League last Thursday.
There has been an improvement in his relationship with manager Erik ten Haag recently but Ronaldo is still expected to leave in January if he can find a club.
