Should Chelsea sign Nkunku or Leao?
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has been ambitious with his spending in his first transfer window with the club under his control, having signed nine players over the course of the window.
The club were the biggest spenders in the transfer window and spent the most amount of money for a single club in one transfer window in history, signaling the new ownership’s intent.
They do now want to make a big-money move for an attacker, and have two players lined up for the summer of 2023, with a view to bringing in a man to build their attack around.
The Blues have targeted Milan’s Rafael Leao and RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, and have a decision to make with regards to who they will pursue in the summer window next year.
Chelsea have to pick between two options
Chelsea spent over £250 million in this summer’s window, and will have to fork out a big sum next year, with Boehly open to doing so as he wishes to being successful at Stamford Bridge.
Leao was a player they targeted in the past window, but they were unwilling to spend a big sum – with fees over £100 million quoted – that late in the window having already spent so much.
They have still kept Leao in their plans and that interest has only intensified considering the Portuguese star’s fine form at the start of the season with Milan across all competitions.
It’s been reported that Milan would only consider selling if the release clause for Leao – set at £130 million – is met, with Sporting Director Paolo Maldini sticking to his guns.
Bit more on Christopher Nkunku. Despite denials from certain parties, still told a medical did take place in late August and that Nkunku (without signing anything) has verbally indicated he is happy with Chelsea’s terms. There is no agreement yet between Chelsea and Leipzig.

Nkunku is another player Chelsea want and it was reported in Germany that he had taken part in a medical earlier this week as part of the process of moving to Stamford Bridge in the future.
The Frenchman was named the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season in the last campaign, and has had a good start to this campaign, with his release clause being set at a low £53 million having signed a new contract in the summer.
As of now, it seems more likely that it’ll be Nkunku that moves to Chelsea, given his low price, but the Blues will have to move quickly as interest in him is incredibly high.
The likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the player and could be tempted to make a move for him as well.
