Liverpool are in need of improving their midfield and could target Chelsea’s Mason Mount as an option if they want to get better in that area in the near future.

The Reds have needed to refresh their midfield for a while, and the effects of not doing so has been reflected in their performances so far in this campaign after a sluggish start.

They targeted Aurelien Tchouameni as an option, but he went to Real Madrid from Monaco in the summer and they haven’t had a plan in place to act as a contingency option.

Now, they could turn their attentions to Mount, the Chelsea star who is out of a contract in 2024 and could be tempted by a move elsewhere.

Mount would fit Liverpool well

Chelsea are looking to offer Mount a new deal to keep him at the club for a long time and are open to doubling his wages in the near future to ensure he remains at Stamford Bridge.

Mount has a contract with Chelsea until 2024 and the Blues aren’t too worried about losing him, but Liverpool could be tempted in a move as he fits in with their playing style.

Mount has been described as a “pressing monster”: over the last year, Mount has averaged more than 20 pressures per 90 minutes, something that would be appreciated by Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp.

That number is well above average, and would be welcomed in this Liverpool side that is lacking the same energy of years gone by.

A move would be difficult to complete Mount is committed to Chelsea, his boyhood club, and the Blues themselves want to keep hold of their best young talent, with Mount central to their vision.

As a contingency plan, Liverpool have been keeping tabs on players like Yeremy Pino of Villarreal and Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma, but targeting Mount himself would solve plenty of issues.
