Liverpool have had a tough start to the season, and their most recent result was a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal, putting them 14 points behind the league leaders early on in the campaign.

In addition to the defeat, star winger Luis Diaz suffered an injury and it’s expected to keep him out until after the World Cup, adding to the problems in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Liverpool’s attack has already been suffering this season: Mohamed Salah is out of form, Darwin Nunez hasn’t kicked on, Diogo Jota’s story is the same, with only Roberto Firmino showing glimpses of quality this season.

With Diaz out for a prolonged period of time, he is set to miss a host of important fixtures which could impact their season massively.

Diaz to miss crucial matches

In total, Diaz is set to miss 10 matches between now and the start of the World Cup, for which there will be a break across European football.

He will miss the remainder of the Champions League group stage, which includes matches against Rangers, Napoli and Ajax, with Liverpool in a good position to progress.

There will also be several important league fixtures, starting with next weekend’s home clash against reigning league holders Manchester City at Anfield.

After that, Liverpool take on West Ham United, also at home, before going to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest and then a visit from Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United.

Then, Liverpool have a tough away trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on Antonio Conte’s men, who have been in fine form in the league thus far, with the aim of securing Champions League football again.

To wrap it up, there is a League Cup fixture against Derby County before the Reds take on Southampton in the final match in the league before the World Cup break is enforced across the Premier League.
