The Manchester derby is always one of the most eagerly awaited dates on the football calendar and United fans were hoping to continue their recent renaissance at the Etihad that had seen them win their last four league games.

However, many Man Utd fans had already left the Etihad by half-time as they were utterly humiliated in the first 45 minutes.

By the half-time break, City were already 4-0 up and it was a scoreline that could have been even heavier.

Phil Foden broke the deadlock on eight minutes from a Bernardo Silva cross before Erling Haaland continued his sensational start to the season with goals on 34 and 37 minutes.

His first was a powerful header and his second a fine finish at the back post from a Kevin De Bruyne cross.

Foden then made it 4-0 with another goal of his own from a Haaland assist just before half-time.

Antony pulled a goal back for United on 56 minutes with a fantastic curling effort from long-range of his own, the match by that point was well beyond United.

Indeed, Haaland completed his hattrick on 65 minutes with a thumping finish from Sergio Gomez’s cross.

Anthony Martial scored a couple of consolations to make it 6-3.

This game was another example of the gulf in quality between the two sides.

And it came as no surprise that football fans and followers flocked onto Twitter and social media platforms to mock Man Utd for their umpteenth humiliation of recent times.
