Man Utd and Real Madrid given hope in Gakpo chase
Cody Gakpo has provided hope to Manchester United and Real Madrid over a potential transfer in the near future after an impressive start to the season for him.
The youngster has been linked to various clubs over the last few months and has back up those links with a series of fine performances for PSV at the start of the campaign.
He has been involved in 23 goals so far this season – 13 goals and 10 assists – as he has a starring role in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV team this campaign so far.
Now, it’s emerged that Gakpo would refuse any offers from lower sides and would chase a club that can offer him European football as his next destination.
Manchester United and Real Madrid interested in Gakpo
Aside from Manchester United and Arsenal, Gakpo was linked to various other Premier League clubs including Leeds United, Southampton and Everton.
Now, according to The Athletic, it has emerged that Gakpo would reject any offers from Leeds as he targets a club that is traditionally higher up the table.
Leeds were heavily interested in the player and even negotiated with his representatives after the transfer window had shut this summer, signalling their intent.
With that, clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid will be more optimistic and feel they can get a deal over the line for Gakpo, who they maintain an interest in.

Erik ten Hag is a keen admirer of Gakpo’s talents having observed his growth while he was in the Eredivisie, while Real Madrid’s interest in the Dutchman is more recent.
Gakpo feels he can get a move after the World Cup, which he is surely set to be a part of with the Netherlands after an excellent few years playing in the Eredivisie.
In the last few days, Gakpo has shown his best form, scoring twice and providing one assist in PSV’s Europa League win over FC Zurich, before adding to that with the winner over Heerenveen in the Eredivisie on Sunday.
