Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd issue official response to 'betrayed' interview

Manchester United have issued a statement in response to an interview aired on Sunday in which Cristiano Ronaldo claimed he had been "betrayed" by the club.

Talk TV released a snippet of footage from a 90-minute interview in which Ronaldo claimed he felt disrespected by manager Erik ten Hag and had a clear dig at senior officials at Man Utd, claiming they are "blind" to the state of the club.

While there was an agreement that aspects of Ronaldo's outspoken remarks were valid, unsurprisingly the player's comments have not gone down well with his employers.

The Old Trafford side said: "Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.

"The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

"Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans."

What did Ronaldo say?

Ronaldo had previously launched a vicious attack on senior figures at the club via a Talk TV interview with Piers Morgan.

When questioned if he feels that he is being forced out of Man Utd, he replied: "Not only by the coach, but two or three other guys around the club. I feel betrayed."

The Portugal star even singled out Ten Hag for criticism.

"I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me. If you don't have respect for me, I will never have any for you," he said.

The 37-year-old added: "I think the fans should know the truth I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Man Utd, but you have some things inside the club that don’t help reach the top level as Manchester City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal."

It would come as a surprise if Ronaldo was to play for the club again, with Man Utd having reportedly dished out a £1 million fine to the World Cup-bound Portugal star.
