Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga has not played as much this season and the club refused to let him go out on loan over the summer transfer window.

Elanga started the season on the wings for Manchester United but chances have been limited following the signing of Antony from Ajax towards the end of the transfer window.

The Swede has rarely started matches since, coming on as a substitute on occasions, with youngster Alejandro Garnacho also emerging over the course of this campaign.

Now, it’s been revealed that the club refused to let him go out on loan as they were short on options in their squad and needed to keep him.

Elanga was denied loan

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, Elanga is a player of high potential and needs a chance to impress by playing more football.

“I think Elanga really needs to play more,” Romano said. “There was some interest in a potential loan deal in August but Man United decided to keep him.

“At the moment the situation is quiet; but in my personal opinion, he deserves to play more as he has an incredible potential,” the journalist added later on.

Elanga made his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but was given more first-team chances under Ralf Rangnick, who was in charge on an interim basis last season.

He featured regularly in the second half of the campaign but that has been halted in this campaign as competition rose following Antony and Garnacho’s introductions and good form.

It remains to be seen whether there is a January move for him: clubs like Everton were interested in him in the summer transfer window and they may come back for him for a temporary move in the second half of the campaign.

Elanga has played a total of 40 matches for Manchester United and has scored four goals across all competitions in his short time at the club.
