Casemiro has been impressive since joining Manchester United, becoming one of their most important players over the course of this season.

He joined from Real Madrid in one of the summer’s biggest – and most surprising transfers – but he has improved the Manchester United midfield in his short time at the club.

Many were surprised due to the fact that Manchester United were struggling at the start of the season and Real Madrid entered it as Spanish and European champions.

Now, it’s emerged that Casemiro was intent on joining Manchester United even though there was an early setback that could’ve prevented him.

Man Utd defeat helped seal Casemiro move

Manchester United’s season started poorly with two defeats – one to Brighton at home and the next being a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Brentford.

According to the Mirror, Casemiro called up Manchester United’s transfer chief John Murtough after the Brentford result to discuss the transfer.

He could be forgiven for wanting to pull the plug on the transfer given how poor Manchester United were on that day, but the opposite happened.

He ended up calling Murtough and suggested that he was even more keen to join and wanted to help elevate Manchester United – he reportedly couldn’t wait to get started at Old Trafford.

Casemiro didn’t have any doubts about leaving Real Madrid after seeing Manchester United’s initial struggles and he wanted to reassure Murtough of that.

Since arriving, Manchester United have lost just one domestic game – that at Manchester City at the start of October, and things have drastically improved for the club.

They progressed from their European group and are close to the top four, and have picked up important wins such as those over Arsenal and Tottenham.

He has also formed a great midfield partnership with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes and there’s hope he can get even better.
