Cody Gakpo is one of the most sought-after talents in European football and that interest could well rise after a stunning season so far.

Over the summer, several clubs were interested in taking Gakpo on, including Manchester United and Arsenal, but a move is yet to materialize.

Gakpo has 30 goal contributions in 23 appearances this season – 13 goals and 17 assists – and is set for a spot on the plane to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup this month.

However, interest from Manchester United still exists and they could well make a move for him as early as the January transfer window.

Gakpo will cost a big amount

Manchester United are still believed to be leading the race for Gakpo and the player will cost a significant sum – close to €50 million – and not the lower fees suggested elsewhere.

PSV Sporting Director Marcel Brands suggested that they wanted that sum in the summer transfer window but no one came with the right offer, which meant Gakpo stayed.

Brands also added they have no intention of selling Gakpo in the January transfer window, but there’s a belief they may be tempted if the right offer arrives for them.

Manchester United are lacking in options in the attacking areas and may be tempted to make a move for him, however, there may be some questions over his fit in the team.

The Red Devils opted to sign Antony in the summer and have other options including Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and others in their squad.

Gakpo has played much of the season down the left-wing, currently shared by Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho, but none have shown the same level of output this season as the Dutchman.

There is no doubt that having quality in depth is a good thing, but the competition may cause doubts for Gakpo, and it may be an obstacle if Manchester United do wish to sign him.
