Almiron has been in incredible form since the arrival of Eddie Howe to St. James’ Park and he’s getting the numbers in terms of goals and assists to back up his improvement.

The Paraguayan has a key role in the Newcastle attack and has scored seven goals in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season for the Magpies.

Things could’ve been very much different for Almiron, though, if interest from Manchester United in the past had materialized into an actual transfer.

Almiron could've been a Man Utd player

Almiron has had an unconventional route into English football: he started at Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno, before moving to Lanus in Argentina.

There, he impressed, earning a transfer to Major League Soccer side Atlanta United where he grew to become one of the league’s best players.

For two seasons, he did well in America, and attracted interest from many before making a move to the Premier League with Newcastle.

His agent, Daniel Campos, has now revealed there was interest from Manchester United and Arsenal in the past: "Miguel Almiron is a footballer who went from less to more, now he is a more complete footballer,"

"There was interest shown by Manchester United in Miguel Almiron but they never made an offer. Arsenal and Southampton offered loan deals for Miguel Almiron but we did not want it to be a loan."

Prior to this season, Almiron had only scored nine goals in his two-and-a-half years in the Premier League but that has changed this season as he’s been given greater attacking responsibility.

Given his form, interest may rise once again in the 28-year-old and another transfer may not be improbable in the near future for the Paraguayan star.
