Manchester United announced yesterday that they reached a mutual agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo for the termination of his contract.

Ronaldo’s future at the club was always in doubt after his interview with Piers Morgan last week where he criticized the structure, Glazer family, Erik ten Hag and more.

The club completed the termination without having to pay a penny to Ronaldo as the remaining wages which would have to have been paid were forgone.

Now, it’s been revealed how much he has cost Manchester United for every goal he scored at the club during his on-and-a-half-year stint.

Ronaldo earned big for goals

Ronaldo was the club and the Premier League’s highest-earning player, making £500,000-a-week with them over the course of his stay.

The Portuguese star scored 27 goals across his time at Old Trafford and earned a hefty chunk doing so, but was unable to bring any silverware to the club.

With the numbers being crunched, Ronaldo earned a total of £1.2 million for every goal he scored in his second stint at Manchester United.

Out of the 27 goals he scored, 24 of them came last season with his poor form combined with the fact he was regularly dropped meaning he wasn’t able to add greater numbers to his tally.

In their statement released, Manchester United were thankful for Ronaldo’s services to the club and said they were fully supporting Erik ten Hag’s process at the club.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”
