'Cristiano Ronaldo is finally free!': Twitter reacts to CR7 leaving Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United have parted ways after the Portuguese forward's explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticised the club, its owners and the manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo returned to Man Utd from Juventus last summer and top-scored for the club with 18 goals in the Premier League and 24 in all competitions.

But this season has been radically different for the 37-year-old, who was dropped by the new manager, Ten Hag, relegated to starts in the Europa League and the occasional appearance off the bench domestically.

Ronaldo left the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur early last month after Ten Hag had tried to bring him on three minutes from time, and his interview with Morgan on the eve of the World Cup was blistering.

Ronaldo said he had "no respect" for Ten Hag, and claimed the club had failed to move on from Sir Alex Ferguson's reign which ended nearly a decade ago. Former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville were also described as "rats" for not supporting him in recent weeks.

Where Ronaldo goes from here remains to be seen. His agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered him to former club Real Madrid for six months in light of Karim Benzema's World Cup-ending injury, while David Beckham's Inter Miami have been mooted as a possible destination.

Now on a free transfer, the number of clubs who could potentially afford Ronaldo has just increased exponentially. Where he ends up remains to be seen, but he has plenty of invitations per Twitter…
