Barcelona dealt massive blow in Dalot chase: The details
Barcelona have been dealt a massive blow to their hopes of signing Diogo Dalot from Manchester United.
Sport reports that Man Utd are not only set to trigger the one-year extension clause in Dalot’s contract which expires at the end of the season but plan to hand him a new improved deal until 2027.
“Dalot is a good player. He has a contract with us and we will trigger a clause in the next few days to extend it until 2024. That decision has already been made,” Erik ten Hag confirmed recently.
The 23-year-old had been one of the top targets for Barcelona in 2023, perhaps as early as January, as the Blaugrana are currently facing a right-back crisis.
Dalot has been one of Man Utd’s surprise performers this season, establishing himself as a first-team regular and being one of the most consistent players in the squad.
This has attracted the interest of not only Barcelona but also a number of big Premier League sides.
What clubs are interested in Dalot?
Juventus, Inter and Milan have all been heavily linked with Dalot, who spent the 2020-21 season on loan with the latter.
Dalot made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri that campaign, but never truly made the right-back spot his.
Nevertheless, he is still well thought-of throughout the club and in Serie A as a whole.
Dalot also enjoyed an excellent World Cup with Portugal, who made it to the quarter-finals before their shock 1-0 defeat to Morocco.
He got assists in the games against South Korea and Switzerland and established himself as a first-team player at right-back during the competition.
