The Frenchman, who has made 262 appearances in all competitions at Stamford Bridge, is entering the final six months of his contract with the club - with his future up in the air.

And according to a report by Foot Mercato, the former Leicester City player, whose season has been plagued by a hamstring injury that will eventually require surgery and leave him sidelined until at least the end of February, could well make the move to Saudia Arabia on a free transfer.

From January onwards, Kante can speak to any foreign clubs with regards to a pre-contract agreement, with a view to moving there in 2023.

As well as the Middle Eastern giants, Barcelona is said to be among a number of top European clubs who are keen on signing the 31-year-old.

Al-Nassr have also been trying to sign superstar Ronaldo who is at the end of his career at the elite level.

The Portugal international is now a free agent after being relieved of his contract at Man Utd last month and has been locked in talks with Al-Nassr over a possible move - though nothing has been signed so far.

But it won’t be a case of either of or for the side, who have the financial muscle to bring both into the fold.

Kante in his twilight years

Kante famously helped the Foxes win the Premier League title in the 2015–16 season, earning himself a move to Chelsea the following year.

With the Blues, the veteran player has won the Premier League title, an FA Cup, and a Champions League.

He is widely considered one of the greatest holding midfielders of this generation but his injury woes have piled up, meaning he has not been able to provide much consistency for Chelsea over the past few seasons.
