‘Better having Maguire than Lukaku’ - Ghana’s parliament mocks Belgium flop
Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has been drawn into the Ghanaian parliament’s budget debate for 2023, which went viral when Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was mocked in an outrageous speech.
MP Isaac Adongo had compared the defender to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who he described as an “economic Maguire”.
Now Chelsea striker Lukaku, who is on loan at Inter, finds himself in the firing line, with MP Alex Tetteh Djornobuah warning Ghanaians against voting President John Dramani Mahama back into power by comparing him to the misfiring Belgium international.

“It is better for us to maintain Maguire that we will be able to have his confidence back rather than bring a striker like Romelu Lukaku whom Chelsea sold to Inter Milan and later had the confidence that Lukaku can actually help them with their striking force. Not knowing that Lukaku is the worst striker in the whole world.
“We are not ready to bring back such a striker into the country again.”
Remarkably, these comments were made before Lukaku endured a nightmare match with Belgium against Croatia as he missed four big chances in 45 minutes as Robert Martinez’s side crashed out of the 2022 World Cup.

Ghanaian MP’s Maguire comments
This fiery response came in the wake of Man Utd centre-back Maguire being slandered previously by Adongo.
“Harry Maguire, he's a defender. He was tackling everybody and throwing his body everywhere,” Adongo said.
“He was seen as the best defender in the world. Manchester United went and bought him. He became the biggest threat at the centre of the Manchester United defence, tackling Manchester players and giving assists to opponents. Mr. Speaker, when you see the opponents go to score, Maguire will score for them.
“Mr. Speaker, you remember in this country we also have an economic Maguire. We're clapping saying this man is the best in managing foreign terms. The same economic Maguire was at Central University delivering lectures on how to restore the value of the Cedi (Ghana's currency).
“Mr. Speaker why we gave this Maguire the opportunity to be at the centre of our defence? He became the rest of our own goals. Our economic Maguire is taking control of the fundamentals of our economy and destroying all of them.”
