EXCLUSIVE: Anthony Gordon wants Newcastle despite Chelsea transfer interest
Anthony Gordon has stated his desire to move to Newcastle over Chelsea, FootballTransfers can reveal.
The winger has been linked with a move to St James’ Park and we are told he is keen to play under Eddie Howe and in black and white over the London club.
Sources tell us that the young wide man took the advice of fellow professionals who told him that Newcastle was a better option as London would be a distraction. We are also told that Gordon is a fan of the city of Newcastle and that the club and its history are a huge appeal to him.
Newcastle have begun negotiations with Everton, who are looking for £60million for the 21-year-old.
Gordon is seen in a similar fashion to Miguel Almiron, who has shone under the stewardship of Howe for the Magpies this season.
Many expected Gordon to join Chelsea in the summer, but the move never materialised - however, we are told the Blues still very much like the player and have him on their radar.
Everton’s No.10 has played 16 times in the Premier League this season, but the feeling is that he may have played his last game at the club and that a move for the winger away from Goodison Park may be on the horizon.
Everton woes
It comes after we reported that Everton have missed out on their chance to sign Arnaut Danjuma.
The Netherlands international was set to finalise his move to Goodison Park and the club had readied an announcement for tonight. But that is now hanging in the balance and it is Tottenham who are edging close to securing the winger.
One source told us that Danjuma has now received a better offer than the one he had with Everton. The player had signed a contract with the Toffees but not all the paperwork was done.
We understand that though the deal is not entirely dead with Everton, complications have arisen and another club has entered the forefront - and we are told that club is Spurs.
Sounds are that Danjuma may have had his head turned by the London side and that he’s opting for a move to the Lilywhites.
