Arsenal are considering making a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham in January, according to La Repubblica.

The Gunners are in the market for a striker during the winter window due to the long-term injury to first-choice number nine Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal are already in negotiations for winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk but would also like to bring in a first striker in January.

La Repubblica reports that Roma’s Abraham is an option.

Abraham completed a €40 million transfer to Jose Mourinho's side in 2021 - with another €5m in bonuses - after finding himself surplus to requirements at Chelsea. (The Blues do have a buyback option on Abraham for €80m, though in 2024).

The Englishman enjoyed a wonderful first season at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 27 goals in all competitions from 53 games.

This included some key goals in big matches, including the Rome derby and the winner versus Leicester to put Roma in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Giallorossi would go on to win that final against Feyenoord to claim their first European title in over 60 years.

Abraham struggling this season

However, Abraham has endured a miserable second season so far. He has scored just three Serie A goals and has performed poorly throughout the campaign.

This has led to Abraham even losing his first-team spot in recent matches.

The striker’s future past the end of the season is very much in doubt and there are many who feel this will be his last campaign at the Olimpico.

Thus, a move to Arsenal cannot be ruled out. However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be keen to pay a big sum for a player who will be fighting for one spot with Jesus when the Brazilian returns.

It also is questionable if Abraham will accept a move knowing that there is no guarantee he will be a regular starter.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League, with a five-point lead over Man City.
