The lucrative contract will see the Argentine midfielder earn a hefty €10 million per season, according to transfer expert Nicolo Schira.

That wage will make Enzo the sixth best paid player in the Chelsea squad behind Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

Sterling is currently the highest paid player at Chelsea on €19.8m a year.

Fernandez is set to join Chelsea this week in a club record transfer from Benfica.

Chelsea will pay €127m for the Benfica midfielder, with the Blues paying €7m more than his release clause in return for being able to pay his fee in three installments.

This will make the 21-year-old the most expensive player in Chelsea’s history, surpassing the previous highest fee of €115m for Romelu Lukaku from Inter in 2021.

Enzo Fernandez at World Cup 2022

Fernandez was one of the breakout stars at the 2022 World Cup as Argentina won the tournament.

Fernandez joined Benfica for €18m last summer from River Plate and enjoyed six excellent months at the club.

He scored three goals and provided five assists this season for a Benfica team who are top of the Portuguese league. They also topped their Champions League group above PSG, winning home and away versus Juventus.

River Plate will receive 25 per cent the transfer fee Chelsea pay for Fernandez.
