Chelsea have been linked with a move for Noni Madueke from PSV as they look to add more young talents to a squad well-stacked with them.

The Blues have been chasing more attacking players to their squad despite already signing Mykhailo Mudryk in this window and Madueke is seen as a top target.

The English winger has been playing with PSV in the Netherlands since 2019 having previously been at the academies of Crystal Palace and Tottenham in England.

However, given the needs of the team and club, it could be said that there are perhaps other needs in the squad that need to be addressed first.

Madueke is not the talent Chelsea need

Madueke is a talent with plenty of potential, but he isn’t what Chelsea need at the minute given how the squad is shaped and how many attacking players they already have.

Additionally, given the rumoured fee of around €45 million, it probably isn’t worth it for a player who hasn’t consistently shown his qualities at PSV.

He has the potential to get better but has only shown his best abilities in flashes, and isn’t PSV’s best or most dangerous attacking player in the time he’s been there.

Indeed, injuries have affected him, but beyond there, there are question marks over his quality: he often picks the wrong options in attack, his positioning can be better and he needs to make better decisions.

Still only 20, there is plenty of room and time for that to get better, but perhaps Chelsea should wait it out before moving for him, especially given they need quick results and competition in the side is strong.

The Blues also need to improve in midfield and quite significantly – their current attacking players have struggled because of it, and Madueke likely will as well.

It’s clear Madueke is a big talent, but at the moment, he’s a diamond in the rough and far from showing his best – spending a big sum isn’t justifiable at the minute despite his existing qualities.
