Enzo Fernandez's proposed move from Benfica to Chelsea was arguably the biggest transfer saga of the January transfer window, but the Blues appear to have been able to finally seal a deal for the talented Argentine.

The West London club will pay a British record €120 million to land the 22-year-old, with Benfica only allowing a sale if Fernandez's extortionate release clause was met.

Despite already splashing the cash on the likes of Myhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiashile, Chelsea were able to fund a move for the 2022 World Cup winner, with Todd Boehly's transfer method of signing players on long contracts helping the Blues work around FFP regulations.

However, they have still paid a huge sum of money for a player with just six months of experience in Europe, and who cost Benfica just €14m last summer.

His price has skyrocketed thanks to his immense string of performances in Qatar that helped fire Argentina to the World Cup and win himself the Young Player of the Tournament award.

But, Chelsea's decision to bite the bullet and sign one of the most talented midfielders in the world will come as good news for his former club River Plate.

How much will River Plate earn from Fernandez's Chelsea transfer?

River Plate only sold Fernandez to Benfica in July last year, but they're set to earn a cool sum of cash thanks to their academy graduate.

It's been reported that the Argentine giants included a 25% sell-on clause in Fernandez's Benfica contract, which means they're set for a massive pay-day.

Furthermore, AlbicelesteTalk have reported that River Plate will receive €41m of Fernandez's transfer fee to Chelsea, which will make him their record ever sale despite not actually playing for the club anymore.

Their current record transfer sale is Javier Saviola's €35m move to Barcelona back in 2001.
