Bayern Munich are in talks with Chelsea over a possible move for Kai Havertz this month, according to reports.

The Bavarian outfit lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer and signed Liverpool's Sadio Mane as his replacement, but are still keen to add to their forward line.

Havertz, 23, joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for €80 million back in 2020, but has failed to hit the heights expected of him in West London.

The Germany international has struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League, despite a regular run of games, especially under Graham Potter. He is Chelsea's top goal-scorer in the English top flight this campaign, with five goals, but he's been linked with a move away following the Blues' recent flurry of transfer activity.

During the January window alone, Chelsea have signed David Datro Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix on loan to bolster their attack, bloating their options in forward areas.

Furthermore, Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi will return from their respective loan spells this summer, while Christopher Nkunku is set to arrive from RB Leipzig, leaving Graham Potter with a surplus of attackers going into next season.

As a result, several players will need to be offloaded and after a disappointing two-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, Havertz could be one to move on.

He netted 46 goals and provided 31 assists in 150 games for Bayer Leverkusen, and a return to the Bundesliga has been mooted.

Havertz to Bayern?

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Bayern have made contact with Chelsea this week and have begun discussing a possible transfer regarding Havertz.

At the moment, things are reportedly in the very early stages and any potential deal will likely happen at the end of the January transfer window.

Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga and are five points clear of the chasing pack.
