Manchester United are set to receive a loan offer for young star Facundo Pellistri from Brazilian club Botafogo, according to Goal Brazil.

Pellistri, a Uruguay international winger, has found playing time tough to come by since moving to Man Utd from Penarol in 2020 amid much fanfare.

The 21-year-old did make his first-team debut in midweek as he came off the bench against Charlton, but despite being a player that fans are excited by, there appears to be a limited appetite from the club management to have him involved in the first-team picture.

According to Goal, Botafogo are ready to launch an ambitious attempt to sign Pellistri on loan. However, the offer that they have formulated includes a buy-out clause that would allow the Brazilian club to retain the player at the end of the initial term.

Furthermore, Man Utd would also be expected to pay a portion of Pellistri’s wages over this period.

Pellistri wants Man Utd stay

Pellistri has already been linked with Valencia and Flamengo on temporary deals but he reportedly wants to stay at Old Trafford and prove his value to manager Erik ten Hag.

His attitude towards Botafogo’s loan offer is likely to be the same, particularly after having just been given his debut for the club, albeit it was a mere six-minute cameo.

Nevertheless, with 10 caps for Uruguay, for whom he played at World Cup 2022, there is a sense that United have already stalled his career by sending him on a couple of loans to Alaves in La Liga, where he has picked up 35 matches of senior experience in Europe.

Additionally, though, Ten Hag feels that his squad is light of options and this may mean he is reluctant to allow the player to depart.
