Chiesa to Arsenal for €20m!? What Arteta’s ‘No.1 target’ will really cost
Arsenal have been linked with a surprise January transfer for Juventus playmaker Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa is perhaps best known for the blistering performances that he gave as Italy won Euro 2020 at Wembley, and after the Gunners missed out Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea, an additional attacking option would be welcome after the arrivals of Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior to the club.

Calciomercatoweb reports that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made Chiesa their No.1 transfer target.
Football.London has put a price of just €20 million on Chiesa, far less than the Gunners paid for Trossard, and unfortunately for Gooners who were no doubt salivating at this prospect, that is off the mark.

What is Chiesa’s transfer value?
Chiesa, after all, is arguably Juventus’ prized asset at present. Under contract until 2025, the Italy international is coming off a difficult period due to injury, which is partially why FootballTransfers’ values him at €37.1m.
Juventus, meanwhile, will be banking on this figure to grow as he regains fitness. Indeed, it is likely that the Turin club will look for something close to the 25-year-old’s peak transfer valuation if he is to leave the club. Chiesa struck this in November 2021, when his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) was as high as €57m.
Of course, Juve’s situation is complicated by the 15-point penalty they have been handed by Italian authorities over financial irregularities. This has left them foundering in mid-table, 14 points shy of the Champions League spots, which they appear almost certain to miss out on.
The club’s financial problems are likely to mount should they miss out on the top level of European football and that may prompt them to reconsider the future of several star players, including Chiesa.
Juventus, though, are in the process of appealing their 15-point penalty, and if they are successful, even partially, in that bid, it could change their outlook dramatically.
Selling Chiesa to Arsenal, then, is a risk that they simply will not take unless the price is an outrageous one in their favour – something that €20m clearly isn’t.
