Why Liverpool signing Gakpo stops Madueke to Chelsea in January
Chelsea will be unable to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke this month due to Liverpool's acquisition of Dutch international Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo, 23, was a long-term Manchester United target, but Jurgen Klopp's men emerged as late contenders and sealed a deal for the World Cup star in late December. Gakpo made his Red debut in their 2-2 FA Cup third-round draw against Julen Lopetegui's Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool paid roughly €42 million to sign Gakpo from PSV and that transfer means that Chelsea won't be able to land Madueke this month.

The Blues have been scouting across the globe for fresh reinforcements in a bid to future-proof their side, as well as help the team instantly, with Graham Potter's men down in 10th place in the Premier League.
David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos have already arrived in January, and Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix is set to join them very shortly.
However, the West London club's excessive spending under Todd Boehly's ownership isn't set to slow down anytime soon.

The Times have reported that Madueke has emerged as a viable transfer target, despite his recent injury record that has seen him feature just four times in the Eredivisie this campaign.
However, Chelsea's pursuit of Madueke will have to wait until the summer due to Gakpo joining Liverpool, according to Football.London.
Madueke won't join Chelsea in January
PSV don't want to lose two of their key attackers in one transfer window, especially as they are currently embroiled in a title battle with Ajax and Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
Therefore, they will not sell Madueke in the January transfer window, dashing any hopes of the young Englishman arriving at Stamford Bridge to help with their top four charge.
