Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has urged his former side to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham this summer, and has even jokingly said he'll travel to Germany to make the move happen.

Gerrard has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa, and revealed ahead of Liverpool's clash against Chelsea that he believes England international Bellingham is perfect for the Anfield club.

"Bellingham is an obvious one [for Liverpool]," Gerrard said. "I'm a huge fan and Liverpool lack this running number eight who arrives in the box and gets you a goal. Bellingham ticks all those boxes.

"All he needs to do is send me his diary, I'll fly to Dortmund and take him out to dinner and bring him back!"

Bellingham to Liverpool?

Bellingham has been Liverpool's primary transfer target for quite some time and they have seemingly ignored other midfielders in order to prioritise signing the Birmingham City academy graduate.

It's believed that a bid of roughly €120 million could be enough to convince Dortmund to sell, with the Bundesliga club willing to let the Englishman leave if a suitable offer is submitted.

Real Madrid and Manchester City are also interested in the 19-year-old, who has already racked up 156 senior appearances despite still being a teenager.

Bild TV presenter Valentina Maceri recently told Sky Sports: "Our information is his father's talking to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp wants to sign him at Liverpool.

"And Klopp said if Bellingham were to decide for the money, he's not going to choose Liverpool.

"But if Bellingham would decide on his personal development, on his development as a player, on tradition and the love of the game he could decide for Liverpool. And my gut is that maybe we could see him at Liverpool."

Liverpool have also been linked with Kouadio Kone, Teun Koopmeiners and Kephren Thuram as they look to address their midfield issues. However, Bellingham remains their number one target.
