The 30-year-old arrived at Man Utd on loan until the end of the season from Burnley after terminating his previous loan at Besiktas.

The deal has raised eyebrows with many critics, with some believing that the giant target man is not of the profile or quality required for such a big club like Man Utd.

However, Ten Hag believes that the doubters will eat their words.

What did Ten Hag say about Weghorst?

"I think Wout [Weghorst] has surprised at every club where he has been, except at Burnley — I have been following him for a long time, all through his career,” Ten Hag said.

“I have known him since he was 16 years old and everywhere he has been he has surprised.

"He [Weghorst] is a player I have been scouting. He has shown at all his clubs that he could add something or strengthen something. He has an incredible mentality. Even defensively he can add value to a team.”

Man Utd made the signing of a new striker their priority in the January transfer window following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo saw his contract at Old Trafford rescinded in November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan in which he slammed multiple figures at the club, including the owners and manager TegHag.

Weghorst represented a cheap option for Man Utd, who did not want to spend big money in the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old scored nine goals in 18 games in all competitions this season for Besiktas.

He also impressed at the World Cup, scoring twice in the quarter-final exit to Argentina for the Netherlands.
