The Reds have held talks with consortiums in Saudi Arabia and Qatar in November last year, who had expressed an interest in buying the club.

Earlier this week, Qatari media confirmed that a consortium in the country are the frontrunners to take over the club in what would be the most lucrative takeover in Premier League history.

Journalist Mohammed Saeed Alkaabi said: “Qatar are giving priority to the acquisition of Liverpool Football Club and are seriously interested but the deal is not complete at this present moment.”

Qatar have Salah plan

It’s believed that the current ownership’s failure to make the European Super League a reality is behind their desire to sell the club in the coming months.

New reports have also claimed Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who leads Paris Saint-Germain, is interested in the Liverpool takeover as the PSG project will come to an end in 2024.

It’s been said that he met with Mohamed Salah after the Brentford game and wants to make him one of the pillars of the Qatari-led project in the future.

Salah is contracted to Liverpool until 2025 and a renewed investment in the club, where he has already been so successful, will encourage him to stay on for longer in the hope of winning more.

Fenway Sports Group have been criticized in recent times for their failure to invest in Liverpool with the squad currently struggling in the Premier League.

They sit in mid-table and have a struggling squad, especially in midfield, and that has been a source of frustration for many of their fans.

They hope to complete the sale of the club in the early part of the year and fans will be eager to see who their new owners are.
