Arsenal ended a four-game winless run in the most dramatic circumstances on Saturday as they twice came from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-2.

The game was evenly poised throughout, with the Gunners only going 3-2 up in stoppage time when Jorginho’s shot clattered off the bar, hit the head of Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez and ended up in the back of the net. Shortly afterwards, with Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper having advanced to try to score from a corner, Gabriel Martinelli broke away to score into an empty net.

It was the contribution of Jorginho, though, that was most eye-catching.

The Italy international was criticised on social media during the first half for having upset the balance of Mikel Arteta’s side, but by half-time he was being hailed in many quarters as a hero thanks to his overall performance.

Indeed, it was the first match that Jorginho has played for the Gunners that the London side have won.

Come full-time Arsenal fans were singing the praises of a player they signed on transfer Deadline Day from rivals Chelsea.
