Potter on Thiago Silva
While the Blues have been on a spending spree this season designed to give the squad a youthful look, the former Milan and PSG star has been a cornerstone of their team and remains one of their leading performers.
"He's got a football brain that is above everybody pretty much. He understands the game and has played for so long at the highest level, his references are so strong," manager Graham Potter said in January.
Meanwhile, Potter also discussed the ongoing importance of the South American in helping the young players around him, particularly Benoit Badiashile, who arrived from Monaco in January.
Speaking after the scoreless draw at Liverpool, he said: "He's helping Benoit [Badiashile], that's his second game in the Premier League, I thought he did really well. But to have Thiago Silva alongside him is a big help. I'm delighted with his form, he's an important player for us, a leader in the team, leader in the group, he looks like he's enjoying his football," he said.
Thiago Silva has played 106 games for Chelsea, scoring five goals.
