Why Enzo Fernandez song has left Benfica seething

A band that wrote a tribute song to Enzo Fernandez has entirely disregarded his time at Benfica.

A report in the Record states that the group 'La T y La M', made up of famous duo Tobias Medrano and Matias Rapen, adapted the lyrics that they dedicated to the Argentina national team after their triumph in the last World Cup, but left out the Portuguese side.

In the song, they listed all the clubs that the Argentine had played for throughout his career but left out Benfica.

The lyrics include: "From Argentina to England, with the smile of someone who won the third World Cup, [the] world champion, you already know who he is. Enzo Fernandez is going to London, he played for Defensa and River Plate, today he's going to Chelsea and he's going to shine.”

Fernandez moved from the Portuguese outfit to Chelsea in what was a British record. The Blues departed with £106.8m to bring the star to Stamford Bridge. It was part of a huge window for Chelsea, who spent unprecedented amounts.

The £323m they spent worked out more than the combined outlay by clubs in Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. Fernandez was their most expensive signing and is now the British-record, beating Jack Grealish’s £100m move from Aston Villa to Manchester City in the summer of 2021.

Chelsea's winter spree

They also managed to secure £88m capture of Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Asrenal’s nose from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Blues also brought in Joao Felix on a six-month loan deal from Atletico Madrid for £10m.

Benoit Badiashile arrived from Monaco for £35m and Noni Madueke moved in a £29m deal from PSV Eindhoven.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos set Chelsea cost £18m from Vasco de Gama, and David Datro Fofana cost them £8m from Molde.

Lyon’s fullback Malo Gusto arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £26m deal - though he will not arrive until the end of the season.
