MASSIVE fine pushes Neuer closer to Man Utd or Chelsea
Manuel Neuer could be pushed ever closer to a summer transfer as Bayern Munich are considering fining the goalkeeper a whopping €1.5 million.
According to the Daily Mail, Neuer could be fined a huge amount after publicly criticising the Bavarian club in the media.
Neuer is currently locked in a war of words with Bayern’s management over the release of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.
Tapalovic was released by Bayern after allegedly leaking information from the coaching staff to the press.
Neuer was close friends with Tapalovic and has taken the decision badly. He has publicly blasted the club, leading to Bayern hitting back at the veteran goalkeeper.
Didi Hamann: "These statements are embarrassing for Neuer. This is arrogance. He put himself higher than the club. For me, sacking Tapalovic is the best decision."
Do you think Neuer will play with Bayern again after his statements?
Hamann: "Probably not" pic.twitter.com/WIz7cuzbAu— BayernTimes (@BayernTimes) February 4, 2023
This has led to multiple reports that Neuer will quit the club this summer, one year before his contract expires in 2024.
Manchester United and Chelsea have both been heavily linked with signing the 36-year-old.
The two Premier League giants are looking for new number ones and Neuer represents an experienced, top-class option.
What did Nagelsmann say about Neuer?
Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann also added fuel to the fire on Sunday, appearing to refer to Tapalovic as a shark when explaining the hiring of Michael Rechner from Hoffenheim as new goalkeeping coach.
“I know Michael from my Hoffenheim days,” Nagelsmann said.
“But he is not my buddy. In my eyes, he’s the best solution in terms of content, it has nothing to do with being friends.”
“There are coaches who bring eight, nine people with them to a club.
“That also has a purpose. The bigger the club, the more sharks swim around you. And it’s not bad if you’re in the middle of the shoal and there are a few pufferfish on the outside.”
Neuer turns 37 next month and is out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg on a skiing trip after the World Cup.
Bayern subsequently signed Yann Sommer as his replacement from Borussia Monchengladbach.
