Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left furious with Chelsea’s decision to drop him from their Champions League squad and is “convinced” that the club want to dump him.

Aubameyang has had a hectic 12 months. He pushed his way out of Arsenal to sign for Barcelona in January 2022 but was allowed to leave Camp Nou for Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

However, his move to Stamford Bridge has proved even less successful than his switch to Spain. He has featured only 17 times for the Blues and has scored only three goals.

Despite Kai Havertz’s struggles in attack and the lack of a natural No.9 in his style at the club, Aubameyang has seen his status at Chelsea steadily tumble. Indeed, the arrival on loan of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid appears to be the nail in his coffin with the Blues.

This was underlined on Friday, when it was confirmed that Chelsea had dropped Aubameyang from their Champions League squad, with Joao Felix one of the three players brought into European contention along with fellow January arrivals Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez, who both arrived on huge deals.

Aubameyang jets off to Milan

The Telegraph reports that Aubameyang is “convinced” that Chelsea want to dump him.

Indeed, his reaction to the news that he was left out of the European squad was greeted by the player apparently jetting out to Milan with his family.

Manager Graham Potter would not be drawn on the rumours.

“He trained really well this morning (Friday) and he’s got the weekend off. It’s a free world” the manager said.

Potter, meanwhile, did not discount using Aubameyang in the future.

“He’s got to train like he did today and be ready to play because football changes quickly, that’s the nature of the game.”

Chelsea are next in action on Saturday, 11 February, when they visit West Ham in the Premier League.
