Recent reports have speculated that Conte may be sacked by the club before the end of the international break, following his criticism of the team's performance and his comments about the club's history.

Sheringham believes that the atmosphere at Tottenham is not positive and that there are constant questions about Conte's future.

He argues that the club needs stability and confidence, and suggests that Sherwood could provide this as a manager who knows what he wants and has experience in the game.mp preferred not to comment, other than to say that every option is still on the table.

Speaking about Conte’s remarks after the Southampton match, Sheringham told TalkSport “What a rant he came out with the other day. I still look at it and people ask me what do you think, but I still don’t know what he means with his rant.

“He talks about the last 20 years of Tottenham, maybe even more than that going back to my time, are you saying that there’s a cancer of the last 30 or 40 years of Tottenham Hotspur?

“I’d have to sit down and ask him what he meant because the only person who has been there for the last 20 years is Daniel Levy.

“The players have changed, the staff have changed and they haven’t won anything, so what are you trying to say? Is it down to the chairman, is he doing the wrong thing?

“All I can see from what Daniel Levy has done is that he’s gone out to try and buy the best and get the best managers in. He’s had Jose Mourinho in and he’s a proven winner. He’s had Conte, a proven winner and it hasn’t happened for whatever reason.”

'Wrong vibe at Tottenham'

Sheringham added: “I think that the vibe is all wrong at Tottenham. There are question marks all the time about Conte, is he staying? Is he going?

“He’s only been there two years and it seems to come around every three months about whether he’ll stay or he’ll go.

“He looks upset and you can’t have that because you need some sort of stability to give you the confidence that you’re there for the long run and you want to make it right. If I was to answer the question I’d say to let him go and bring someone else in.

“I’d let him go now and get yesterday’s guest [Tim Sherwood] in. I would. I think you can do a lot worse than getting Tim Sherwood in.
