Manchester United star Luke Shaw has signed a new and improved deal at Old Trafford.

The left-back has been one of United's most-improved players under Erik ten Hag, and the club have long since been desperate to tie the 27-year-old down to a new contract.

The Englishman has had an up-and-down time with the Red Devils. Once described as overweight, Shaw recovered and proved his doubters wrong. This season, he has been ever-present in United's side, featuring in 35 games and contributing with a goal and six assists from left-back, while also deputising at the heart of the defence at times.

His old contract was set to expire in 2024, but his new long-term deal is understood to run for four years, according to The Athletic. If fulfilled, it would take Shaw's time at Old Trafford to 13 years, having made a €37.5 million move from Southampton in 2014.

It is expected that more contract extensions at United will follow in the near future.

More negotiations

Indeed, negotiations over new and improved deals have been ongoing with numerous high-profile performers for a while. Another long-time club servant, David de Gea is said to be close to signing a fresh extension as well.

The Spaniard, who has been with United since 2011, is out of contract this summer with the Manchester outfit keen on keeping the experienced keeper around - but only if he takes a significant pay cut. Despite the negotiations, United remain in the market for a new goalkeeper who would add competition in that position, recently being linked with Inter's Andre Onana by Gazzetta dello Sport.

More importantly, Ten Hag and company are desperate to tie star man Marcus Rashford down to a new contract. The 25-year-old's current deal is up in 2024, and United do not want to lose their 27-goal man under any circumstances.
