Ajax defender Jurrien Timber says he will consider a transfer at the end of the season after rejecting a move to Manchester United last summer.

Man Utd’s initial target at centre back ahead of the 2022-23 season was Timber.

However, a transfer didn’t materialise for a couple of reasons.

First of all, Ajax were reluctant to sell and, secondly, the player himself was not convinced that he was ready for the move.

Indeed, Timber decided that it would be better for him to develop in Amsterdam for another year.

As a result, Timber stayed at Ajax and United moved to sign his teammate Lisandro Martinez instead.

But Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag - formerly of Ajax, of course - remains a big fan of Timber and could come back in for him again this summer.

Timber appears more open now, although he insists he is happy at Ajax.

What did Timber say?

“A transfer? You never know what crosses your path. This summer I will look at my options and make a decision,” he said.

“I feel good at Ajax, that's important for now. Last summer there was interest, but I chose to stay at Ajax.”

The 21-year-old is now a key player at Ajax, while he has won 14 caps for the Netherlands national team.

United are expected to sign at least one centre-back this summer as Harry Maguire should leave the club after losing his first-team place.

Victor Lindelof’s future is also in doubt, while Phil Jones will leave when his contract expires.

United have been signing a number of Ajax and Eredivisie-based players since the arrival of Ten Hag.

Antony also arrived from Ajax, while Tyrell Malacia joined from Feyenoord. Dutchman Wout Weghorst moved on loan from Burnley in January.
