'If Enzo Fernandez is €120m, how much is Osimhen worth?'
Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United have been sent a warning over the price tag of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after he netted twice for the Serie A leaders against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Osimhen was to the forefront as Napoli moved serenely into the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to a 3-0 win over their Bundesliga rivals on the night and 5-0 on aggregate.
The 24-year-old is hotly tipped to make a move to the Premier League in the summer and, along with Harry Kane of Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani is being closely linked with a switch to Manchester United in the summer.
Chelsea’s big spending over the course of the last two transfer windows may have had the impact of inflating the transfer market, particularly with the Blues and Man Utd so chronically in need of a centre forward.
With that in mind, Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini cited Enzo Fernandez’s move from Benfica to Stamford Bridge in January as something of a benchmark deal that Napoli will be looking at when they field bids for Nigeria international Osimhen in the weeks to come.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Italy, he was asked to give a transfer value for Osimhen and replied: “Well, Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea for €120m…
“Something will happen with strikers in the summer. It will all depend on Kylian Mbappe. If there is a new transfer saga, it will cause a domino effect.”
Is Osimhen worth more than Enzo Fernandez?
The Enzo Fernandez deal will be of particular interest to Napoli because the Argentina midfielder moved to Chelsea for an exorbitant sum after a relatively short spell of strong form at a lower level in Portugal.
Osimhen, meanwhile, has been on fire since joining Lille in 2019 and has continued that level with Napoli, where he moved a year later. Therefore, he would appear to be a surer bet than Enzo and, in turn, worth more than the €120m Chelsea paid Benfica for the World Cup winning midfielder.
