Chelsea are seeking to add the former central defensive partner of Benoit Badiashile to their squad this summer, according to a report from France.

Monaco defender Axel Disasi has caught the eye of several leading sides this summer, with Manchester United and PSG both linked with the 25-year-old defender. Manchester City also scouted him during Monaco’s 2-2 draw against Nantes last Sunday.

According to Le Parisien, Chelsea hold an interest in the player who for over two years teamed up alongside Badiashile in the heart of the Monegasques’ defence, forming a strong partnership.

Although the Blues have spent lavishly over the past two transfer windows, they have had a mixed bag of success. There is little doubt, however, that Badiashile has been one of their more impressive arrivals since joining up from Monaco in January for €38 million.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has performed so strongly that his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has leaped to €50m – close to doubling since he arrived at the club barely three months ago.

Spurred by this success, Chelsea are now looking at the possibility of recruiting Disasi to play alongside him.

Disasi battle about to begin

The competition will clearly be fierce to sign the France international, who is capable of playing as a right-back but more typically plays at the heart of the defence.

This is excellent news for Monaco, who will seek to profit from the former Reims defender, who they signed in 2020 for €13m.

The Ligue 1 side’s asking price is thought to be in the region of €50m, which is well above his ETV of €25m but does reflect the jump that Badiashile has made in this regard in just a short space of time. This figure could also drop if the interest in the player declines.

In any case, the success of Badiashile with Chelsea suggests that Disasi could also prove an excellent signing, although the quotes of €50m do look inflated.
