Chelsea could be plotting a move for Liverpool legend Sadio Mane, whose time at Bayern Munich has not gone according to plan.

The Senegalese forward joined the Bavarians for €32 million last summer in what many considered an absolute transfer coup from the Bavarians. And for a while, it looked as though this move would live up to the hype.

The 31-year-old scored five goals in his first month in Munich as Bayern appeared to be marching towards yet another Bundesliga title, their 11th in a row. Now, at the business end of the season, this rosy picture has been turned on its head completely.

Mane got seriously injured in late 2022 and missed the World Cup, Julian Nagelsmann was fired as head coach and Bayern crashed out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion - after which Mane punched teammate Leroy Sane square in the face - and they are now also a point behind Dortmund in the title race with just five games remaining.

Since his flurry of goals early on, Mane has only found the back of the net seven more times. In fact, he scored his first Bundesliga goal since October 29 in Bayern's potentially title-deciding 3-1 loss to Mainz at the weekend. Now, there are rumours that his torrid time in Germany could already be coming to an end.

Mane to Chelsea?

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are keen on making a bid for the 31-year-old in what would be a move that will certainly anger the fans of Mane's former club, Liverpool, given the history between them and the Blues.

With the London club likely unable to splash the cash in the summer due to Financial Fair Play regulations, they are said to be in the market for cheaper options that can add to their forward line.

Though mainly interested in acquiring a proper number nine, Chelsea could look to Mane to be a reliable, short-term fix for their woes up top.
