Man Utd set for £600k-per-week outlay to sign new highest earner

Manchester United are willing to make Harry Kane their highest earner if he leaves Tottenham for Old Trafford this summer, while Marcus Rashford will be offered equal terms to his England teammate in order to renew his contract.

Kane is United’s top transfer target this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to sign an elite striker, however Tottenham are reluctant to sell to a divisional rival despite their talisman having just one year remaining on his contract.

United too are not willing to enter drawn out negotiations for Kane but they are hoping to tempt the England captain to push for a transfer by offering him wages of £300,000 a week – 50% more than he currently earns in North London.

The offer would also be the same for Rashford, who also is entering the final year of his contract, with the 25-year-old being given the chance to become the club’s top earner alongside Kane, should he join.

David de Gea is currently United’s highest earner at £375k a week, however he will likely take a wage cut this summer in order to extend his deal with the club, taking him down to around £200k a week.

The saving on De Gea’s deal would allow United to secure Rashford’s long-term future while also allowing the club to offer Kane a lucrative deal as Ten Hag looks to assemble a team capable of winning the Premier League.

What does the future hold for Rashford and Kane?

United are desperate to sign Kane but the club are aware of the difficulties in negotiating with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and do not wish to engage in a transfer saga.

However, there is a belief that Kane will look to leave Spurs this summer, with the club still lacking a permanent manager and in danger of falling out of the European places.

Tottenham could hold onto Kane in the hope of convincing him to extend next season, or potentially sell him in January, while they are also open to selling Kane abroad on a cut price deal, although no teams are likely to be able to afford him.

Rashford, meanwhile, is enjoying the most prolific season of his career and has previously been tracked by Paris Saint-Germain, although the forward is believed to be keen to extend his deal and will discuss his future at the club at the end of the season.
