The Manchester United Supporters' Trust have implored the Glazers to leave the club or face a revolt against their regime.

The Glazer family decided to open a third round of bidding earlier this month, adding further time to the takeover process to at least the April 28 deadline.

Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus opted to pull out of the race as a result, calling it a 'farce' and criticising the current owners for not coming to the table to negotiate.

And now the Supporters’ Trust of the club have spoken out about the process.

It read: “If the outcome of this process was the propping up of the Glazer ownership with potentially more debt, not less, then I think that would be a disaster and I think you would see open revolt from fans once again," MUST director of communications and Fan Forum member, Chris Rumfitt, told i News.

“Potentially the only beneficiaries from that are the four siblings who are most motivated to sell. That looks like a way for the four silent siblings to sell their stake and Joel and Avi to continue.

"We are very, very clear that would be a disaster and the reaction of fans to that would be mutinous.”

Glazers to stay

Earlier this week, reports suggested that the American family may well retain a majority share of Man Utd - with an intention to get a more sizeable payout in the future.

Supporters fear that the Glazers will keep a minority stake in the club rather than selling it as an entirety.

The Glazers have owned the club for 18 years and their tenure has been roundly criticised owing to the fact they have run the club into considerable debt over the years.

There is also anger that Old Traffird and the club’s training ground are not up to scratch - symbolic of a club whose infrastructure is not fit for purpose.
