Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made some comments about the Glazers which has infuriated the club’s fans.

The Ineos chief, who is now considered the frontrunner for the takeover, was speaking at an event hosted by the Financial Times over the summer.

There he was asked about Red Devils, having been a fan of the club since he was a child. He responded: "Manchester United is owned by the Glazer family whom I have met.

"I've met Joel and Avram and they are the nicest people, I have to say, they are proper gentlemen. If it had been for sale in the summer then, yes, we would have probably had a go following on from the Chelsea thing.

"But we can't sit around hoping that one day Manchester United will become available. We have an exciting sporting franchise, but the one thing that we don't have is a Premier [League] team."

Man Utd fans rage

But, of course, his words, after emerging on social media, have enraged fans online, who have taken Ratcliffe to task, especially in the backdrop of Man Utd’s protests over their ownership ahead of their side’s Premier League match with Aston Villa on Sunday.
