Manchester United have been told to sign “born winner” Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer as the answer to their striker problems.

The Red Devils have struggled in the centre-forward position for much of this season, with Anthony Martial suffering from injury issues, Cristiano Ronaldo departing under a cloud in November and Wout Weghorst simply not good enough after joining on loan from Burnley.

Man Utd are linked with a number of players, the two most pertinent being Totteham’s Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

Ben Foster is under no doubts who is the better option.

Asked on the United Stand is Kane’s lack of trophy-winning pedigree is an issue, he explained: “I’ll have no worries over Harry Kane whatsoever. I don’t think he’s got any fragilities when it comes to his mental state or anything like that. He’s a born winner who just wants to get on the pitch and score goals.

“I think, honestly, that he’s got four years left in him at the top level. Four years of banging in goals – 20-25 goals a season guaranteed. Why would you risk getting an Osimhen who might do it in the Premier League – he might, but he’ll cost you £100 million to find out - where as you can get Harry Kane for less than half the price of that maybe?”

When Foster’s anticipated transfer fee was scoffed, nevertheless doubled down on his stance.

“Kane has only got a year left on his contract,” he pointed out. “Even if he’s going to cost £60-70m, it is absolutely guarantee that he will score you goals and that for is the important bit. Why take that risk when you know it’s guaranteed. Just go and do it, it’s as simple as that!”

Kane, 29, has never won a major honour with Tottenham or England, but has claimed the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions, most recently in 2020/21.
