Manchester United have been told that just two summer transfers could make Erik ten Hag’s side Premier League title challengers.

Ten Hag has made a promising start at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are only fighting to earn a place in next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish. They also have won the League Cup and are going strong in the Europa League and FA Cup.

Despite this, there is a gulf between Man Utd and the leading teams in the Premier League. They are 19 points short of leaders Arsenal, for instance.

According to club legend Gary Pallister, who was a centre-back in the club’s first-ever title-winning season of the Premier League era, just a couple of additions could have a transformative effect on their fortunes.

Asked if a good transfer window could make Man Utd title winners, he told AceOdds.com: “Yeah, with a successful transfer window, then who knows?

“The one that everybody's looking at, obviously, is Jude Bellingham. I think wherever he goes, it will give the club that he arrives at a huge shot in the arm because everybody wants him.

“He's English. Technically, he's excellent. He's got a great drive to him by the looks of it. And I think every club's sort of letting it be known that they'd love to him to have him at their club.”

Man Utd need a striker

Pallister also wants to see Man Utd sign a No.9 – but he is a little less picking on who this needs to be.

“I would say United also need a centre-forward as well. If they can bring in one of maybe their top two targets next season, then it's going to make United more dangerous,” he added, referring presumably to Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, though the Red Devils have also been linked to Randal Kolo-Muani, Goncalo Ramos and Evan Ferguson among others.

“I think they've taken great strides this year because of the fact that we've had Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in there. I think the two lads in midfield have brought a different dimension to Manchester United, which we possibly have not had for a few years. So that's ticked the box in there.

“If you add Bellingham to that as well, then wow. If you get, as I say, one of the two centre-forwards, then I think that sends out a big message to the rest of the Premier League that Manchester United can compete again with the very best.”

Man Utd’s transfer window is liable to be dictated by the state of their takeover, which remains in a state of uncertainty, with the identity of their buyer, if the Glazer brothers even sell, unclear.
