‘Mudryk doesn’t care about Potter sacking’

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hit out at Mykhailo Mudryk, remarking that his contract at Chelsea is so long that he isn’t bothered when managers like Graham Potter come and go.

Mudryk has been receiving heavy criticism after a disastrous start to his career at Chelsea.

The Ukrainian moved to Stamford Bridge from Shakhtar Donetsk for €100 million in January after Chelsea hijacked Arsenal’s bid for the player.

But Mudryk has endured a terrible start in west London, scoring no goals and making just one assist in eight games.

His poor form played its part in manager Graham Potter getting sacked on Sunday, with Chelsea down in 11th place in the Premier League.

Eyebrows have also been raised at the length of Mudryk’s contract at Chelsea, as he is tied to the club until 2031.

Wright believes that Mudryk’s contract is too long and hinted that he will lack motivation or connection to the club as a result.

What did Wright say about Mudryk?

“They’ve bought players and put them on these contracts and if we don’t start seeing something in the next… well now, we should be seeing stuff now,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“They’re only going to be losing money on that asset, it doesn’t make sense.

“If you’re going to incentivise them then what happens is, when you speak about Mudryk coming in and he went from let’s say £10,000-a-week to £80,000-a-week or £90,000-a-week and then they incentivise that more so it may go up to 150,000-a-week.

“It’s still nearly £100,000 basic for somebody who shouldn’t be incentivised. Just give him a three or four year contract and bam get him in the team.

“At the moment you are looking him, is he bothered at the moment? He doesn’t seem to me like he’ll be be bothered about what’s going on at the moment because he’s got a long contract, this manager will go, we’ll see what the next one does. If he comes in and it works out for me, brilliant I’ll kick on.

“It’s kind of put something into the players minds where they’re relaxed.”

Mudryk disappointed in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at home, missing a one-on-one that was widely mocked.
