Real Madrid president Florentino Perez “intends to sign” no fewer than four Chelsea stars, according to a report from Spain.

Los Blancos are eager to take advantage of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) problem that the Stamford Bridge club face and are willing to move for four of their stars, which could raise Chelsea more than €185 million.

Fichajes reports that Perez is aiming to profit from the Blues’ crisis, which sees them likely to miss out on European football as the lie 11th in the Premier League and are on the verge of losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The four Chelsea players Real Madrid want to sign

Reece James

The England international defender continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid, despite Chelsea being unlikely to sell. According to reports in Spain, Los Blancos are willing to pay over €100m for the player, which is well in excess of his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €68.5m. Nevertheless, Chelsea see the 23-year-old as a long-term feature at the club and are unlikely to sanction any sale.

Mateo Kovacic

Seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos or Luka Modric, the Croatia international is a more realistic target for Real Madrid than James. Chelsea are known to want to strengthen in the central midfield area, and if they were to get a fee in the region of Kovacic’s ETV of €35m, that would provide them with valuable funds as they battle FFP.

Mason Mount

With a year left on his contract, speculation is rife that Liverpool want the attack-minded midfielder. Despite a relatively disappointing season, Mount’s long-term performance means that he still commands an ETV of €73.8m, which is close to the €80m (£70m) price the club have put on his head. If they fail to sign him this summer and if Mount does not agree a new deal at Chelsea, Madrid will seek to capture him on a free transfer in 2024.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The most surprising of the four names linked to Real Madrid, yet the midfielder is the most realistic in terms of signing. According to the report, though, the Spanish club only see him as a rotation option. Like Mount, he is out of contract in the summer of 2024. His ETV is only €10.7m.
